A study from a European group retrospectively investigated the prevalence and determinants of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), in a population of 50 patients with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAVPR), discovered on chest contrast-enhanced CT. The overall prevalence of PAPVR was 0.2% (23/13,606 CT scans) and the prevalence PAH was 14% (7/50 patients). Because PAH is a possible serious complication of PAVPR that may have dramatic consequences if left untreated, all cases of PAVPR discovered either incidentally or non-incidentally on CT require follow-up and further investigation.
