The value of CT angiography and FDG-PET in the identification of non-stenotic carotid atherosclerotic plaques in patients with ischemic stroke

A study from a French group assessed the role of combined CT angiography (CTA) and FDG-PET for the detection of complicated carotid plaques in patients with stroke of unknown origin. In these patients, a greater prevalence of high-risk plaques was found in the carotid ipsilateral to the stroke, demonstrating the usefulness of FDG-PET-CTA in this setting.
