In a large observational study, pericoronary adipose tissue attenuation (PCAT) on contrast-enhanced CT angiography – a new marker of atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability – was examined in patients with and without spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). The study results revealed that PCAT is significantly higher in patients with recent SCAD than in patients with no prior SCAD, suggesting an increase in pericoronary inflammatory activity and the usefulness of a quantitative assessment of this parameter through contrast-enhanced CT angiography in this setting.
