A 50% reduction of iodinated contrast medium (CM) in spectral brain CT angiography optimized qualitative and quantitative image quality compared to a full dose of CM

In a retrospective study published in Neuroradiology, the image quality of brain CT angiography obtained by using virtual monoenergetic images on spectral CT in patients receiving a halved dose of iodinated contrast medium (CM) was compared to the image quality provided by the full dose of CM. A 50% reduction of CM not only preserved the qualitative and quantitative image quality but also significantly improved it over conventional images with a full dose of CM.
