A recent study evaluated the effectiveness of a novel knowledge-based iterative model reconstruction (IMR) algorithm compared to hybrid iterative reconstruction (iDose4) and conventional filtered back projection (FBP) for visualizing the artery of Adamkiewicz (AKA) on low-dose CT angiography. In a cohort of 45 patients with aortic aneurysm or dissection, IMR demonstrated significantly superior image quality, as indicated by higher signal-to-noise and contrast-to-noise ratios, compared to iDose4 and FBP. Additionally, IMR provided markedly improved visualization and continuity of the AKA, yielding the highest rate of assessable cases. These results suggest that, by affording better localization of the AKA, IMR, used in combination with low-dose CT angiography, may help to lessen the risk of ischemic injury to the spinal cord during aortic repair procedures.
