    1. Patient Presentation

    • A 78-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency room for severe abdominal pain, vomiting and
      constipation.

    • Her medical history was unremarkable; in particular, she had never had surgery.
    • Laboratory test results were normal.
    • Plain radiography of the abdomen showed distension of small bowel loops with air-fluid levels
      in the left upper quadrant.

    • Multiphasic contrast-enhanced CT of the abdomen was performed to investigate.
