    1. Patient Presentation

    • A 53-year-old woman presented with a 3-day history of abdominal pain, which had dramatically
      increased in the few hours prior to her arrival in hospital.

    • On admission, she had elevated levels of C-reactive protein (271 mg/l) and leukocytosis (15.3
      Giga/l).

    • The point of maximal intensity of the pain was located slightly above the bladder.
    • After inconclusive ultrasonography, CT of the abdomen was performed.
