Six radiology residents reported on the contrast-enhanced CT examinations of a cohort of 30 lung cancer patients, using both structured report templates and conventional non-structured free text templates. The reports were assessed for accuracy, completeness, and clarity by two experienced radiologists and two thoracic oncologists. The results revealed a significantly better quality of reports produced with the structured reporting templates, suggesting that their use could greatly benefit inexperienced radiologists, as well as helping to improve interactions with the clinicians involved in clinical decision making.
