A review from an Italian group described the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and pathophysiology of hypersensitivity reactions to radiocontrast media in pediatric patients. Adverse reactions to contrast media in these patients seem to be rare with a low incidence of severe events, as reflected by the small number of studies carried out in children. Owing to the lack of specific guidelines for children, the authors adapted the diagnostic and management recommendations for adults to this age group, according to the available evidence-based publications.
