Evaluation of local endothelial shear stress with non-invasive contrast-enhanced coronary CT angiography compared to invasive intravascular ultrasound is feasible, accurate and able to provide relevant information on high-risk coronary plaques

A study from the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography assessed the accuracy of non-invasive coronary CT angiography (CCTA) for the computation of local endothelial shear stress (ESS) metrics in comparison with invasive intravascular US (IVUS). Computation of ESS by CCTA demonstrated similar diagnostic performance to IVUS while offering the advantage of non-invasiveness for the identification of anatomical high-risk features leading to plaque progression and destabilization and consequent major adverse cardiac events.
