A prospective study examined the diagnostic accuracy of contrast-enhanced cardiac CT performed with a single source, single energy whole-heart scanner for the measurement of extracellular volume (ECV) in patients with a recent diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy, using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging as the reference standard. This study demonstrated for the first time the high reliability and efficiency of cardiac CT in measuring ECV, a possible surrogate marker of myocardial fibrosis, in this type of patients.
