Cardiac CT may represent a viable alternative to cardiac MR feature tracking for the assessment of myocardial strain and strain rate

    This novel study compared advanced cardiac CT combined with a feature tracking algorithm (CCT-FT) to cardiac MR-feature tracking (CMR-FT)—the reference standard for measurement of myocardial strain—to assess CCT-FT feasibility for measuring left ventricular (LV) strain. In 15 adult patients, both global and segmental LV strain and strain rate were analyzed using the two modalities, and agreement between them was calculated. Results showed strong agreement for global circumferential strain and moderate agreement for other global parameters. CCT-FT tended to slightly underestimate global longitudinal strain and strain rate compared to CMR-FT. Segmental strain reproducibility was higher in myocardial and endocardial layers than in epicardial regions. Overall, CCT-FT demonstrated feasibility and accuracy as an alternative to CMR-FT for assessing LV strain.
