An observational study published in the journal Medicine examined the potential effect of inclusion or exclusion of papillary muscles and trabeculae when quantifying left ventricular (LV) functional parameters using cardiac CT, a very valid imaging modality for the study of LV functionality. The study concluded that including or excluding papillary muscles and trabeculae may significantly affect disease diagnosis and therapy.
