An artificial neural network for refining bone mineral density calculation in multiphase CT

    A retrospective study from European Radiology, carried out on 206 routine abdominal contrast-enhanced CT scans, demonstrated the high performance of an artificial neural network (ANN), compared to other two models, in detecting the presence and phase of iodinated contrast agent and consequently refining opportunistic bone mineral density (BMD) calculation. The ANN evaluated in this study has shown to provide a reliable diagnostic accuracy and to improve opportunistic BMD assessment.
