Five years have passed, and the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), in partnership with the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), have come together again to update the guidelines on CT Colonography (CTC) [1,2].
This time the guidelines have been extended to include colon capsule endoscopy (CCE), a new, recently introduced medical technique allowing the colon to be explored endoscopically [3]. CCE relies on the use of an ingestible, wireless, disposable capsule that “navigates” through the large bowel exploring the mucosal surface. Although carried out without sedation or gas insufflation, the technique requires a highly demanding bowel preparation.
