CT Angiography: A reliable imaging technique for assessing treatment outcomes in peripheral arterial obstructive disease

Dear readers,

Peripheral arterial obstructive disease (PAOD) is a serious and progressive disease which may lead, if untreated, to life-threatening consequences. PAOD management is usually based on endovascular or surgical procedures according to the severity of the condition. The scientific societies recommend performing a rigorous post-procedural surveillance in order to evaluate clinical improvement and promptly identify any post-treatment complications. The international guidelines have unanimously recognized the high value of CT angiography (CTA) in the assessment of PAOD treatment outcomes, considering this technique an appropriate and precise imaging modality for follow-up after therapy.

The advantages of CTA utilization in this setting is accurately examined in this month’s Focus on, by Dr. Anzidei, and highlighted by the selected e-book’s chapter proposed below.

Moreover, two clinical cases from the MDCT.net archive illustrate pragmatically the effectiveness, sensitivity and reliability of CTA for a correct detection of adverse sequelae after PAOD treatment.
