Dear readers,
Advances in CT technology over recent years have established CT angiography (CTA) as a key imaging modality for the accurate diagnosis of vascular conditions in the pediatric population, including neonates and infants. High image quality, rapid acquisition, and minimal invasiveness outweigh the potential risks associated with radiation exposure and iodinated contrast administration, which can be further minimized through the use of optimized low-dose protocols and patient-tailored technologies.
In this Newsletter, Dr. Veiga Canuto from Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe in Valencia, Spain, presents a new videographic illustrating the current applications of CTA in children. Her talk focuses on practical strategies to reduce radiation exposure, the advantages of avoiding sedation, and the overall benefits of CTA in achieving high diagnostic performance in pediatric vascular imaging.
The scientific papers selected for this issue aim to provide practical guidance on how to enhance the image quality and diagnostic confidence of pediatric CTA through the standardized and safe use of iodinated contrast media and the application of recent developments such as super-resolution deep learning–based reconstruction techniques.
Finally, two clinical cases highlight the value of CTA as a reliable tool for detecting congenital anomalies in a 3-month-old infant and a 15-day-old neonate and for guiding the most appropriate surgical management.
