Dear mdct.net users,
The term vasculitis collectively refers to several forms of inflammatory vascular disease, from Behçet’s syndrome, polymyalgia rheumatica and Takayasu arteritis to Kawasaki disease, polyarteritis nodosa, Wegener’s granulomatosis and others. The differential diagnosis among these conditions is efficiently supported by contrast-enhanced MDCT. An overview of these pathologies is provided by Dr. Anzidei’s Focus on, while the selected e-book and recently published articles highlight the use of MDCT imaging in the diagnosis of vascular diseases. Two practical cases illustrate the best method for a differential diagnosis through the use of contrast-enhanced MDCT and offer the opportunity to discover the main characteristics of particular vasculitides. Finally, Prof. Saba’s review examines the role of MDCT in distinguishing areas of vulnerable plaque in the carotid arteries.
