Dear readers,
The Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) was established to standardize the reporting and imaging evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using CT and MRI. Recent scientific and technological advancements have prompted the review of the criteria used for assessing and categorizing HCC treatment response following radiation and non-radiation locoregional therapy. The updates include refined algorithms and parameters for the evaluation of tumor viability using CT or MRI.
The 2024 version of the LI-RADS Treatment Response Assessment (TRA) introduced significant innovations and enhancements. These are the focus of Prof. Torregrosa’s videographic featured in this Newsletter.
The selected scientific papers highlight the key differences between the previous and latest versions of the LI-RADS CT/MRI Radiation TRA criteria. They also serve as a guide to understanding the rationale behind these updates and their practical application.
Finally, a new clinical case demonstrates the fundamental role of contrast-enhanced CT in diagnosing HCC and assessing treatment response. It showcases how advancements in CT technology have improved the evaluation of treatment response and contributed to the development of more accurate and rigorous LI-RADS criteria.
