Dear readers,
CT is recommended as the primary imaging modality for detecting and differentiating lymph nodes as normal or pathologic, and for classifying them into target or non-target lesions. The guidelines for the evaluation of lymph nodes, first drawn up and published by the RECIST (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors) Committee in 1981, are constantly revised to include new measurement criteria and up-to-date requirements incorporating the advances in scientific research.
The videopill provided in this Newsletter, proposed by Dr. Viteri from Spain, is aimed at illustrating the main parameters defined by the latest RECIST recommendations based on the use of CT for the evaluation of lymph nodes before and after targeted treatment.
This Newsletter also presents a very recent scientific paper where CT contributes to identify the nodal response to treatment as a new prognostic factor.
Finally, a clinical case from the MDCT.net archive demonstrates the significant role of contrast-enhanced CT in diagnosing enlarged and possibly malignant lymph nodes.
We remind you that suggestions for topics to be covered in future issues of this newsletter are welcome. Please send your proposals to us at editorial@mdct.net.
