Dear readers,
In recent years, several studies have investigated the value of low-dose CT for lung cancer screening among high-risk individuals and demonstrated its superiority over standard chest X-ray in detecting the disease at its initial stages.
The crucial breakthrough in lung cancer screening, leading to the validation and recommendation of low-dose CT in this context, and the fundamental impact of this approach in significantly decreasing lung cancer-related mortality rates are illustrated by Prof. Prosch in his new videographic featured in this Newsletter.
Furthermore, the scientific papers included in this Newsletter have been selected to delve even deeper into two specific topics addressed by Prof. Prosch’s videographic: firstly, the availability of an advanced tool developed by the American College of Radiology – the Lung CT Screening Reporting & Data System or Lung-RADSTM – aimed at standardizing the reporting and management of findings of low-dose CT lung cancer screens; secondly, the alarming increase in the incidence of lung cancer among women.
We also present two clinical cases from the MDTC.net archive where the use of CT effectively contributed to the early identification of pulmonary malignancies.
Lastly, we invite you to visit the mdct.net website to explore two featured lectures from the 2024 European Congress of Radiology. In these lectures, Dr. Gawlitza and Dr. Caruso discuss in detail the optimization of CT contrast injection protocols based on CT scanner innovations and emphasizing patient-centered imaging, respectively.
As usual, suggestions for topics to be covered in future issues of this newsletter are welcome: please send your proposals to us at editorial@mdct.net.
