Dear readers,
The crucial role of non-enhanced CT in stroke evaluation is so well established as to have become the gold standard in the diagnosis of acute stroke. With advances in research and technology, CT angiography and perfusion CT have demonstrated their essential contribution in providing a rapid and accurate differentiation between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, in determining the severity and prognosis of acute stroke and, not least, in guiding the decision-making process.
In this Newsletter, a new videographic by Prof. Bozzao, whom we wish to thank for his valuable collaboration, rigorously explains how effective the use of CT imaging is in identifying the most appropriate treatment for patients with acute stroke, based on specific parameters which only the CT technique can reliably provide.
The purpose of the scientific papers included in this Newsletter is to bring you up to date you on recent progress in the study of CT biomarkers predicting the occurrence of hemorrhagic transformation after acute ischemic stroke and the identification of new tools to improve the diagnostic performance of CT.
Finally, with his clinical case, Prof. Bozzao will walk you through a step-by-step process supported by the use of CT imaging to attain the most accurate diagnosis and most appropriate therapeutic decision for a patient with left hemiparesis.
As usual, suggestions for topics to be covered in future issues of this newsletter are welcome: please send your proposals to us at editorial@mdct.net.
