Dear readers,
Radiology departments stand out for the large amount of historical computerized data which may be exploited to improve efficiency in the present and future workflows and the department’s productivity and performance. One of the most innovative and effective systems to be used for this purpose is Business Analytics (BA) software, which is founded on artificial intelligence and advanced statistical technologies and is able to develop adequate decision-making processes while reducing the health professionals’ workload and potential errors.
An accurate and step-by-step depiction of this approach is provided by Prof. Laghi in the review proposed in this Newsletter, where the introduction and implementation of BA in an Italian Emergency Radiology Department significantly contributed to ensuring an appropriate and efficient diagnostic activity also in a period of crisis.
The experiences of this Italian Emergency Radiology Department during the COVID-19 pandemic and of an American Pediatric Radiology Department with a BA software application specifically dedicated to rationalizing the diagnostic workflow and balancing out the radiologists’ responsibilities are reported in the two scientific papers included in the “Scientific resources” section.
We conclude this Newsletter by presenting a new abdominal clinical case provided by Prof. Laghi’s team.
As usual, suggestions for topics to be covered in future issues of this newsletter are welcome: please send your proposals to us at editorial@mdct.net.
