THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHTS

The essential value of CT in the pre-procedural evaluation before TAVI

Dear readers,

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an alternative treatment to conventional open surgery for specific subgroups of patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. This fundamental life-saving procedure requires accurate pre-assessment and planning to establish the optimal approach and reduce the risk of complications. CT has a crucial role in this pre-procedural phase, as it provides precise measurements of the parameters to be considered and guides the selection of the most appropriate artificial valve.

The fundamental contribution of CT in providing a correct road map for TAVI is illustrated by Prof. Loewe in his new videographic, where infographic elements and voice-over work together for a comprehensive overview of the role of CT in planning valve implantation procedures.

The e-book chapter selected for this Newsletter and focused on the use of CT in the preoperative evaluation for TAVI describes in detail the advantages of using CT to obtain all required measurements and information. The usefulness of pre-TAVI CT is also demonstrated in the new clinical case proposed.

As usual, suggestions for topics to be covered in future issues of this newsletter are welcome: please send your proposals to us at editorial@mdct.net.
