Contrast-enhanced dual-layer CT with a three-material decomposition algorithm provides an accurate quantification of liver fat, with a strong correlation to MRI measurements

A retrospective study including 104 patients compared the hepatic fat fraction quantified by contrast-enhanced dual-layer CT (DL-CT) using a three-material decomposition algorithm with the corresponding MRI values used as reference standard. The correlation of hepatic fat fraction between DL-CT and MRI was excellent, showing the high accuracy of DL-CT in detecting hepatic steatosis, also in early disease and in cases of CT scans performed for different conditions.
