Whole-Body CT in children with multiple trauma

A retrospective study from a French group described the role of emergency whole-body CT for the evaluation of pediatric patients with multiple trauma and estimated the proportion of missed injuries. Injuries were detected at the first evaluation in more than half of the patients, whereas the incidence of missed injuries was about 8%. Age <4 years, ≥2 body regions involved and ≥3 injuries were recognized as independent predictors for missed injuries. Knowledge of the injury patterns and a second reading may therefore be very useful to prevent missed injuries on pediatric whole-body CT.
