The influence of comorbidity burden, including neurological conditions, on troponin elevation in patients with acute ischemic stroke, with an evaluation of the risk of subclinical acute coronary syndrome obtained with coronary CT angiography

A prospective, observational study carried out on 1,092 patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIC)
examined the impact of several comorbidities (atrial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease,
myocardial hypertrophy, heart failure, renal insufficiency, active cancer, neurological deficits and
insular cortical ischemic lesions) on troponin elevation and the prognostic significance of each.
Coronary CT angiography was used to assess the risk of subclinical acute coronary syndrome. In
patients with AIC, the individual and combined influence on troponin elevation of the increasing
burden of all the analysed troponin elevation-related comorbidities, including the neurological
    conditions, was demonstrated.
