Preoperative CT scan anatomic parameters predictive of longer cardio-pulmonary bypass and cross-clamp times in aortic valve replacement

A study from an Italian group assessed the preoperative CT anatomic features predictive of longer cardio-pulmonary bypass and cross-clamp times in patients undergoing minimally invasive aortic valve replacement. Augmented body surface area and annular diameter, high calcium score and increased aorta-sternum distance were identified as independent predictors of longer operation times, demonstrating the essential role of contrast-enhanced CT in selecting patients most likely to benefit from a minimally invasive approach.
