CT helped highlight the role of liver fat storage as a risk factor for coronary artery disease

A prospective study examined the independent role of liver and visceral fat storage in the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). Based on the imaging findings obtained with contrast-enhanced CT in 100 obese patients, the study reported a higher risk of CAD in patients with liver fat storage compared with visceral fat storage, suggesting the need to evaluate this strong predictor of CAD for a more precise cardiovascular risk stratification.
