Correlation between morphological patterns on CT angiography and clinical features of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis

A study from Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology evaluated the association between the different morphological forms of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis on CT angiography and clinical presentation, imaging features and grade of vascularity in 65 patients with a past history of tuberculosis referred for assessment of hemoptysis. Three morphological patterns with decreasing vascularity were identified. Type 1 and 2 aspergilloma, the initial stages of aspergilloma formation, cause more parenchymal inflammation and symptoms, while type 3 aspergilloma was associated with longer hemoptysis duration. However, no significant correlation was observed between the type of aspergilloma and hemoptysis severity.
