Perfusion CT has become standard practice in most comprehensive stroke CT protocols [ 1 ]. The most commonly used MDCT protocol for comprehensive stroke imaging includes the following steps:
- Non-enhanced CT to rule out hemorrhage and to look for early signs of ischemia,
- Perfusion CT to search for hypoperfused tissue, and
- CT angiography to evaluate the site of thrombembolic occlusion and to assess the supra-aortic vessels, e.g. to rule out a relevant carotid artery stenosis [ 2 ].
